The phenomenon of ABDC started in early 2008 and it’s still going strong, because now Season Five has arrived with brand new crews with fresh moves.

It was sad to tune in to the show on Thursday night and not see Shane Sparks on the judging panel. He was dismissed after alleged legal charges were brought against him. Sparks’ replacement this season is R&B artist, Omarion.

Omarion may have cool moves in his music videos, but he’s certainly not getting what this show’s all about. His criticisms do not make sense and his advice does not seem to help the crews.

Stereotyping is being shattered this season especially with Heavy Impact, Saltare, and Jungle Boogie. They’re showing that even big guys can bring it, jumping ropes are not just a gimmick, and animalistic dancing is not just for the jungles.

Blueprint Cru and Static Noyze are also spicing up the stage with intricate moves and theatrical effects that they incorporate into their numbers.

Considering that the past winners have been from the West, this season’s crews from the West Coast are disappointing. Hype 5.0 doesn’t have original moves and seem to bore the judges. I have seen those moves before from Kabba Modern and So Real Cru. Although Poreotix may have a great sense of humor and can charm the audience, they’re also very monotonous and bland. These two crews need to step it up if they want to stay on the show long enough to hold the title of America’s Best Dance Crew.

ABDC airs every Thursday nights at 8/7c, on MTV.
