Another Sadie’s column

Well, it is that time of year again. It is hard to believe that it has already been this long since my last Sadie’s column. Oh man, I still remember all of the feedback that came storming towards me the day after that column was posted.

Anyways, let us reminisce a little bit about that and bring it back to life seeing as how everybody seemed to love it. That is right, another Sadie’s column, but a little different this time.

If you do not remember my last column about this dance, to sum it up, I was just rambling about how guys should not automatically say “yes” when they are asked out to Sadie’s and blah, blah, blah. However, I feel a little different this year.

Even if guys like it or not, everyone has, at some point in their life, yearned for a girl to ask them to a dance in a special way. Whether it be having balloons pop out of a trunk with a sign saying, “Will you go to Sadie’s with me?” or even having a scavenger hunt through the city for clues leading to the person asking them to the dance.

Unfortunately, it is usually expected of the male partner to do these tasks. There is no real reason as to why this is, it just is. However, with Sadie’s coming around the corner, this is the perfect time for guys to have the chance to take the night off.

Sadie’s is the only dance where the guys are the ones waiting in anticipation for that special someone to ask them out. No need to plan for the night, no need to worry about paying for the ticket or clothes, and most importantly, no need to plan a special way of asking someone to the dance. We are just there, waiting in suspense for someone to pop out of nowhere and sweep us right off our manly feet.

You might be wondering what could be different about this column in comparison to my older piece, well, let me tell you about my little change of heart: I encourage all girls to take the risk this year and ask someone to go to Sadie’s. Whether you know they have interest in you or not, take the risk, have some faith, and ask them in the most romantic way possible.

So, to set all the fluff and background history within this article aside, girls, go and ask someone to Sadie’s. Make memories, bonds, and life-lasting experiences that night. There has always been one quote that I have lived by during my senior year, and I think everyone can benefit from following it:

“If you ask me what I came into this life to do, I will tell you: I came to live out loud.” – Émile Zola
