To match the atmosphere of a white and silver Yule ball, Student Council has scheduled the Winter Semi-Formal to take place on Feb. 4 at Michael’s Event Center from 7-10 pm. The theme for the dance this year is “Winter at Hogwarts”.
“I really like the idea of the semi formal dance because girls aren’t pressured to feel like they have to ask a guy to Sadies,” senior Abigail Orozco said. “This way there are both genders asking each other to the dance.”
The venue has the colors StuCo requires, as well as a chandelier to fit the theme.
“We chose this venue because we wanted it to be close to the school so it would be convenient for everyone,” StuCo member Diana Fernandez said. “We also wanted a place that was more private and away from any wandering people. I’ve been at this venue before for previous parties and it is truly beautiful. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
Tickets go on sale Wednesday starting at $20 and will increase until the day of the dance. Spirit Week will begin next Monday and last until Friday, Feb. 3.
“The venues are picked by me ahead of time based on budget and attendance from the previous years’ dances,” Student Council adviser Miriya Julian said. “We try to do off campus venues that are affordable and then we try to find a theme that will work for the spirit week as well as the dance itself.”
At the dance there will be a photo booth, as well as light refreshments, such as brownies and cookies. Lifetouch will also be attending to take professional photos for students who wish to purchase them.
“I’m most excited to hang out with friends at the winter semi formal because we’re all so busy with homework and classwork during the week that we don’t really get to meet up,” sophomore Jasmine Colbert said. “We all need a little break to just dance and enjoy ourselves.”
