“It’s good that students in college or in high school get a discount because they aren’t working and they’d still be able to see the shows but at a cheaper price,” Smith Center Patron Services Representative Ms. Diana McCormick said.
Those that sign up will receive alerts for available $20 select shows. The limit is two tickets for a student with a valid and current ID and will be available two hours prior to showtime at a first come first serve basis. All seats offered will be the best available.
“It’s a great idea for students to be able to see these shows, especially dancers who go to watch the ballet and jazz productions because they can relate to the dancing and possibly learn from it,” former Nevada Ballet student Mr. Dimitri Zemskov said.
Students that meet the age requirement and have a valid student ID can sign up for the free club by texting “SMITHSTUDENT” to 411247. Text alerts and messages are open to all phone carriers. Students who choose to stop receiving text messages or need help may text “STOP” or “HELP” to 411247.
“We get a lot of students coming to see the shows and I think it’s very beneficial to them because it’s affordable and entertaining,” McCormick said.
The Smith Center recently released their 2014-15 Broadway Las Vegas series, for which season subscriptions will be on sale May 12. The series includes broadway shows such as “Ghost the Musical“, “Kinky Boots“, “Pippin“, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat“, “Nice Work if You Can Get it“, “Newsies“, “Cinderellac”, “Annie” and this season’s special, “Wicked“.
“I’ve never been to the Smiths Center to see a show but I’d really love to see some shows by Nevada Ballet now that I’ve heard that they’re discounting their tickets,” sophomore Gillian Galinato said.
