As a 16 year-old high school student, taking trendy and “like-worthy” pictures is a high priority in life. Although a lot of people utilize the mobile app VSCO, traditional filters and cropping can become boring and tedious. After downloading ‘Vimage’, my photos are going to stand out in my followers’ feeds and strike up conversations.
Vimage is an app that allows users to turn their photos into cinemagraphs. A cinemagraph is a still photograph in which small and repeated movement occurs, forming a video clip. They are published as an animated GIF or in other video formats, which can give the illusion that the viewer is watching an animation.
Not knowing anything about cinemagraphs, I was thankful for the easy-to-follow tutorial. The app works similar to any other photo editing tool, which made it simple to use at first. However, after making basic edits, I got confused. With over 80 effects to choose from, including bubbles, fish and smoke, it takes a lot of trial and error to find the right animation to use. It can be slightly overwhelming, but having many options is better than not having enough.
If you choose to share your Vimage to Instagram and use their hashtag, there is a chance that your edit will be reposted on the Vimage official Instagram. Personally, I did not use this feature, but having all of these options could be beneficial for someone looking to get their work out into the public eye.
While I liked being able to try something new, one drawback was the incessant ads interrupting me as I edit my photos. Whenever I save my Vimage to my camera roll, it gave me the option to either watch an ad or upgrade. I figured a few dollars to upgrade is reasonable, considering not many apps offer the same features. However, after discovering that it costs a one time fee of $20.99 to upgrade, I began to reconsider my thoughts. If you’re interested in having no ads, posting without watermarks and unlocking three additional effects or using over two at the same time, then this upgrade may be useful to you.
With an organized layout and creative effects, ‘Vimage’ is an easy way to create cinemagraphs on the go. So far, I have only edited six photos, but I recommend this app to other teens who might need some new inspiration or ideas for their Instagram feed.
