Almost everyone has read a Harry Potter book or seen a Harry Potter film. It’s part of this generation’s growing up experience–people still dress up as wizards and there are even amusement parks for the series. Not only that, but people have enough appreciation for the series that they have created a cafe called Bad Owl Coffee Roasters and designed their interior after the infamous movies series itself.
Bad Owl currently has two locations, one on Rainbow and the other on South Eastern Avenue. As I walked into the Rainbow location, I realized that the overall design is modern–exposed concrete walls, wooden tabletops and hints of greenery on the ceiling. The Harry Potter theme itself was incorporated throughout the interior of the cafe with iconic tokens from the series, such as a golden snitch mirror, quotes from the movies on the tables and white owls.
They had a diverse option of beverages and each one was unique. As I was enjoying my Nutella Latte ($5.30), a barista nicely checked up on me, asking if I was liking my drink and if I needed anything else. Personally, I love good service and that is exactly what they had. The drink was a plus, the Nutella perfectly complimented the espresso base.
While I was exploring the menu, the Charmingly Pesto Sandwich ($9.80) caught my eye so I decided to give it a try. The most prominent taste throughout the sandwich was the balsamic vinegar that gave it a soft sweetness to the bread and pesto. This was a new style for me and I truly enjoyed the mix of all the ingredients.
However, I feel as if the theme itself could be represented throughout the cafe more, especially if you are a customer going there for a Harry Potter experience. They could try to make wand-like straws, serve drinks out of goblets or possibly even have their workers wear robes. Not only that but with an open floor plan, it can seem a little small with the limited seating.
Altogether, the magical, wizardry touch to the interior and welcoming staff at Bad Owl truly shines. The cafe is perfect for anyone wanting a feeling of outside, inside and for those who enjoy a delicious cup of coffee.
