Open House will follow self-guided format Families encouraged to meet teachers

Students and family members are invited by administration to Open House tonight from 6-7:30 p.m.

“We are going to use the same traditional open house format, where parents, students, and family members can come to visit their classes as they choose,” Dean Sherrae Nelson said. “They’re not on a set schedule.”

The allotted time allows for parents to visit all eight classes with a suggested time of 10 minutes per class. However, parents can stay longer if need be.

“This format is student and parent driven in an attempt to meet their needs and to be sensitive to their busy schedules,” Nelson said.

During this time, parents are encouraged to ask questions about the upcoming year to allow an opportunity for teachers to share course expectations.

“I invite parents in, I tell them about my class, I tell them a little bit about my philosophy on education and what I want out of Spanish and teaching,” Spanish teacher Ms. Geri Barnish said. “I also throw some Spanish speaking in.”

StuCo will be at the event to help with tours of the campus and to answer any questions. Yearbooks will also be on-sale.

“I want to meet as many new parents as I can so I establish a relationship, which makes it easier with the kids during the year,” Dental Program leader Dr. Michael Georges said. “But my main goal is to smile more.”
