Due to the recent rainy weather, the annual Journalism car wash has been rescheduled from Saturday, Sept. 9 to Saturday, Sept. 23. The event will take place from eight a.m. to 12 p.m.
“I was sad when we found out because of all the people that already bought tickets that day and [the class] had to tell post about how it was cancelled on social media,” junior Zhen Yu said.
The cost for a car wash is $5. All tickets bought for the first car wash date will be honored. Donations are also being accepted.
“I was disappointed at first, but once it started raining really hard around 10:30 a.m., I was like ‘yay’ because I didn’t want to pay $5 to get my car washed and then put it through rain to get dirty again,” Web Design teacher Denise Snow said.
Journalism adviser Matthew LaPorte will supply the soap and sponges. Staff members were required to supply towels from home.
“Since we as a class don’t really have a lot of towels, we have to bring some from home ourselves,” junior Arielle Fernandez said. “I’m in charge of making sure that they are all washed and sent back to the right place.”
For the past three years, Journalism has held this car wash fundraiser in the student parking lot. The proceeds go towards the class’ funds, which helps to pay for website maintenance, cameras, lenses, SD cards and more.
“If we raise enough extra money, we will buy hoodies like we did in 2016,” senior Vinh Tran said. “However, the money isn’t only going towards clothes. We also use the money to buy more camera lenses because we are lacking in them right now.”
