“Zootopia” chosen for movie nightProceeds will offset Homecoming expenses
In order to fund Homecoming, lunch room game prizes and pay for a coffee cart for teachers, Student Council will host a movie night this Friday, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.
“Some of the money goes to Homecoming expenses like crowns, lunch game prizes, etc.” StuCo adviser Miriya Julian said. “Our goal for this year’s movie night is 275 people. Last year we had about 250 people come, so it would be great to really up our sales.”
“It was chosen because the people in Student Council thought it would be a fun new movie to watch, so we just got the movie approved by admin,” StuCo member Grace Lancaster said.
Last year’s movie night ended early after an unexpected generator malfunction. To makeup for the malfunction, StuCo had a second movie night in the ballroom last November where they showed “Inside Out.”
“This year we have a total of three generators,” Julian said. “The auto teacher, Mr. Raha, rebuilt the carburetor and it’s been working for us since he replaced the parts.”
Students are allowed to bring chairs and blankets onto the field. Payments will be taken at the door, but it is highly recommended that students buy a ticket beforehand. Family members of students are also welcome, however they must pay the admission fee as well.
“I’m going with my friends and I’m really excited to be hanging out with them and have a fun day being together and fooling around,” junior Betsabe Guerrero said. “I have seen the movie before and I find it so adorable. I can’t wait to see it again.”
Admissions costs $5 and includes a bottle of water, cotton candy and a bag of popcorn. Tickets can be purchased from any StuCo member or Julian.
“This will be my first movie night and I’m really looking forward to sitting in the grass, hanging out with my friends and watching a kid movie,” freshman Keren Banuelos said.
