Lining up with other bikes, the adrenaline kicks in as she hears the crowd cheer. Dust and dirt slowly begin to cover her face as the other participants rev their bikes. As the racers see the green flag lowered, they all begin to navigate the course. Clem easily passes each rider and finds herself in first place.
Clem’s father started her in racing for the fun of it, but as time went on she went through situations that shaped her into the person she is today. From being told she wasn’t allowed to race in her own age division, to pursuing a hobby at such a young age, it made it difficult for Clem to continue racing.
“I will go out for hours on end and mess around on any ATV that I can get my hands on,” Clem said. “I ride my ATV because the adrenaline rush gets my mind off of school and stress when I am trying to attempt crazy tricks.”[perfectpullquote align=”left” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”I’ve had everything from broken ribs, to having an entire ATV on top of me, let’s just say, I’ve gone through it all.”[/perfectpullquote]
Almost every ATV that Clem rides is one of her own, but the price of each one differs.
“I have to many ATV’s to count,” Clem said. “Cost depends on size, what type, what year it was built, add any add-ons that you may want.”
For Clem, ATV riding is not just something to pass time, it allows her to become closer to friends and family and make new connections.
“All I can ever do is smile when I am riding because it makes me so happy and excited,” Clem said. “To ride with my family and friends makes the experience that much better.”
However, this hobby isn’t the safest thing and Clem has experienced numerous injuries while riding an ATV.
“There are plenty of times I have rolled and wrecked a dirt bike, razor, quad and plenty more,” Clem said. “It can be super dangerous but it makes for not only a good story but a good memory. I’ve had everything from broken ribs, to having an entire ATV on top of me, let’s just say, I’ve gone through it all.”
Although a lot of people tell Clem that this hobby seems like it is dangerous, that doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves. She gets to learn new things each and every time she gets the chance to go out and ride.[perfectpullquote align=”right” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“I learned that instead of quitting, if you can’t do something, get back up, get your head out of the gutter and try again.”[/perfectpullquote]
“I learned that instead of quitting, if you can’t do something, get back up, get your head out of the gutter and try again,” Clem said. “What’s the point of creating a new hobby if you’re not going to go through trial and error?”
Clem has learned from her many bumps and bruises and will now continue riding ATV’s for the fun of it.
“I am so proud of myself and how far I have become,” Clem said. The opportunities that I have gotten just from doing this hobby like, getting a jersey signed from a professional racer and having it be pulled right off of his back, are unforgettable. I can’t wait for what the future holds for me when it comes to ATV riding.”
