During the DECA International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, junior Yuen Ying Ha competed in the Application Accounting category. Ha won a gold medal for her role-play in the first round of the competition.
“I was really excited to make it on stage because this is the farthest I have been in the three years I competed,” junior Ha said.
Although she did not move forward to the second round, she placed in the top 30% against 179 other competitors throughout the nation.
“I am a little disappointed that I didn’t make it into the final round, but that is definitely my goal for next year,” junior Ha said.
Since freshman year, Ha has been striving to accomplish her goal of winning first in the nation. Her determination is clearly shown each year as she progresses as a competitor.
“I advise others who want to make it on stage to keep studying and always try to stand out and leave an impression in front of the judges,” junior Ha said.
Students are encouraged to join DECA for the 2012-2013 school year and compete at the Nevada State Conference. Placing at the state level offers students the opportunity to attend ICDC and a chance at winning a national title.
