Mr. Pate Thomas receives Teacher of the Game award

MGM Resorts International in partnership with UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, 8 News NOW, Silver State Schools Credit Union and the Clark County School District, have selected Mr. Pate Thomas as a recipient of the “Teacher of the Game” award.

“Mr. Thomas is very deserving of this award because he is a hardworking teacher and he genuinely cares for his students which is evident in his history classes and in Key Club,” junior Shawn Wang said.

To be considered for this award, students must submit a form and an essay on why the teacher of their choice is deserving of the award.

“In the essay I included how his teaching and support impacted me as a student and a leader in Key Club,” senior Kimberly Yiv said.

Winners of this award receive tickets to a UNLV basketball game for two where they will be recognized (a different teacher is honored at each game), an autographed basketball, a jersey, a one night stay in a deluxe room at any MGM resort party and $500 to be spent for educational purposes.

“As Key Club President, I would want Mr. Thomas to spend the money on something beneficial to his classroom or to our club. For example, using the money to benefit a community service project or helping a charity or organization,” Yiv said.
