On Thursday, January 12, Southwest CTA held an open house to recruit new students for next year. The school welcomed students and parents who are interested in the magnet school and its programs. Student council, also known as STUCO, organized and made this open house a success.
STUCO split into three different groups: the tour group, translations group, and the tech support group. Each group’s job was to make the visitors feel welcomed and help them to explore around the school. The touring group gave a tour of the school to interested families and future students. The translations group were helpful to those who spoke a different language and needed further assistance. School admissions were guided by the tech support team. The open house went well according to Jody Pham, junior.
“I was in the tech support group. It was good to see that many people signed up and were interested in our school,” Pham said.
Program teachers and student ambassadors were also present to provide more information about the program area. The teachers talked about what the students do in their program classes. Alisa Sirat, Interior Design teacher, laid out students’ projects and materials students use in class.
Sirat said, “I put out paintbrushes, paints, color swatches, model bedrooms, and other interior design items that helped to make visitors get interested. I saw that a few were really interested and it was exciting to see that.”
Students provided their point of view on their programs. They talked to visitors about the curriculum and explained their program’s curriculum.
“We’re all excited to get fresh, positive attitudes into our program. This was a great opportunity to find exactly just that,” Gabrielle Silveroli, junior, said.
