NHS welcomes new members

Kevin Dionisio, junior, receives his acceptance letter to SWCTA’s National Honors Society.

On Feb. 28, SWCTA juniors and sophomores received their acceptance letters regarding their membership into the SWCTA Chapter of NHS. The students selected will be inducted at a formal induction ceremony held on March 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Coyote Banquet Room.

“I feel very proud of myself. I expect to learn ways to help the community and how to work more effectively in a group by being part of NHS,” junior Miguel Ebro said.

Students are required to wear all black professional attire to the ceremony. A dress rehearsal for the induction will take place after school on March 7 from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. There will also be a chapter wide ice-skating social following the induction and dinner, so students will be allowed to bring a change of clothes.

“NHS induction is a door that when opened, presents many kinds of opportunity to exceptional students. It takes a great deal to become a part of this institution (NHS) and with this institution a student can achieve the pinnacle of community service and opportunity,” senior Marclem Hernandez said.

Those who will be inducted must return the forms attached to the acceptance letter, as well as a $40 membership fee to the school banker by no later than March 5. In order to remain a NHS member, students must have 80% attendance to chapter meetings, 10 hours of community service per quarter, maintain an unweighted GPA of 3.25, and maintain a record free of habitual absences, excessive tardies, and Dean’s referrals.
