To celebrate senior year, all events for the Class of 2018 will be held on the 18th of every month starting with Senior Sunrise this Friday.

“At first, we unintentionally planned Senior Sunrise to be on August 18, but then someone pointed out the irony between Class of 2018 and the date so we thought it would be interesting to start doing events based on the number 18,” StuCo adviser Miriya Julian said.

Before senior sunrise on Friday, seniors are invited to attend the traditional crown making party on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. in the cafeteria.

“We used to do the crown decorating during sunrise but it was too dark and messy so we decided to move it to a day before,” Julian said. “The seniors will be receiving their sunrise shirts at the crown making party, so by the time sunrise comes around everything will be ready.”

The event will be free and all seniors who attend the party will receive a cardboard crown from Burger King. StuCo spray-painted each crown black, requiring 30 cans of spray paint for all of it.

“I’m excited to make a crown this year since it symbolizes how we only have one year left, but I’m still undecided on how I want to decorate it,” senior Alex Sunga said.

Some supplies such as glitter, foam letters, flowers, feathers, paint and more will be provided at the crown making event. Attendees are welcome to bring their own supplies if they wish.

“It’s exciting that we can have events like this since it is our last year,” senior Tensaye Woldesenbet said. “It’s also a convenient time for seniors to come together to do their crowns and see the creativity in the room.”
