Student Council Zone to be held on Jan. 30 The theme of the conference is outer space

The annual Student Council Zone conference on Friday, Jan. 30 will be held at Basic Academy of International Studies from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.. The purpose of the event is to share knowledge and gain experience from other students.

“The conference is about being able to learn and grow our leadership skills,” senior and StuCo member Aliyah Zollett said.

Student Council Zone is open to all high school students in StuCo across Southern Nevada.

“At the conference, there will be workshops, roundtables and also mini groups called JC (junior counselors) groups,” Zollett said.

This year, Southwest CTA will be taking 15 delegates, 4 roundtable presenters, 8 workshop presenters and 4 JC’s.

“The JC groups are where we do a lot of team builders and the workshops throughout the day are the lessons on specific ideas to bring back to our council,” sophomore and StuCo member Alyssa Colligas said.

Delegates are members who attend for the experience, while roundtable presenters exchange ideas about events from their school with other StuCo members.

“The theme is ‘outer space’ and the opening/closing sessions will have space decorations and the JC names will be based on space,” Colligas said. “It’s really fun and we usually have music and dancing.”
