Western Regional Leadership Conference inspires DECA student leaders
Numerous nationally recognized speakers, business tours, and exhibits – these were just a few of the highlights presented at the Western Regional Leadership Conference. From Nov. 10 to Nov. 12, DECA members at Southwest Career and Technical Academy had the opportunity to attend this conference in San Diego, California.
“I was very excited to go to WRLC this year. The best part was when I had the chance to speak in front of over 1,250 people. This idea may frighten some people, but I’m definitely not one of those people. I’m looking forward to the next DECA conference in February!” exclaims senior Victoria Cana.
The conference included a series of specialized workshops that taught DECA members how to invest in a business, solutions to financial problems, key tips to sports marketing, and the characteristics that make one a leader.
“I had a wonderful time in San Diego. I met so many new friends from other states that I’m still talking to today, and I learned so much about business and myself. I was able to grow as a person and it’s definitely something I would want to go to again next year in Seattle,” explains Cassandra Taylor.
Members who attended will now use the valuable information they learned and share it with the rest of the chapter.
“I appreciate all the members who attended the leadership conference. They left as members but came back as leaders. Not only will this help them as an individual, but it will also improve the chapter as a whole,” stated junior Jenny Ha.
DECA is always active and participating in events to grow as a chapter. It is not too late to sign up; contact Mr. Perry Annett or Mrs. Karen Jones. Their next event will be the holiday party in December. Come join the fun and be apart of this spirited organization.
