There’s no denying that boba has been, and will continue to trend among high schoolers. Boba shops continue to open, and competition between them only grows. Starting in Los Altos, California, Teaspoon quickly grew in popularity and began franchising its locations, with their first doors in Las Vegas opening this past October.

Since this was my first visit, I was amazed at how many options I could choose from. From classic milk and fruit teas to coffee, there’s something to fit everyone’s taste. As I stepped inside, I noticed the simplistic design of the store. Since there weren’t many people inside, the shop felt very peaceful and homey. I like how the kitchen isn’t blocked off, since it allows you to watch the workers as they brew your drink. What really caught my attention is a wall quote that said, “Enjoy life one teaspoon at a time.” It makes for a great Instagram backdrop for patrons and free advertising for the business.

To start, I ordered the Black Sugar Assam ($5.50), which is made of assam black tea mixed with milk and brown sugar boba. There was also brown sugar on the side of the cup that I had to mix in. The drink had a very bold, malty flavor, which I didn’t mind since I like my tea more on the bitter side. The boba was firm, yet chewy, and the sauce it was infused with gave the tea some sweetness. I’d recommend this drink to people who really like brown sugar boba.

I also ordered the Strawberry Sangria ($6.00) from their signature menu. It’s a black tea drink with strawberry marmalade in it. The sweetness of the marmalade balanced out the bitterness of the black tea. There were also chunks of strawberry in the drink, which gave it an interesting texture. While I did enjoy it, there wasn’t anything that stood out about this drink. It’s good for people who like simple, fruit flavored drinks.

Finally, I ordered the Silky Mango ($6.00). This was definitely my favorite drink out of everything I tried. The drink had a creamy texture and the mango flavor was really well balanced. The honey boba paired with this drink gave a really nice feel to itas well. This drink is very refreshing and makes the perfect drink for any day you decide to get it.

The variety of drinks and unique flavors set it apart from other boba shops. The relaxing atmosphere inside makes for a good place to study and work or to hangout with your friends. I’ll definitely be back to try more of their drinks and enjoy them “one teaspoon at a time.”
