The following story was written by Andrew Avila as part of the Journalism Foundations first semester exam. These are the first profiles these students have written. 

Freshman Leo Amend, a passionate young musician, has always dreamed of making music his life. Now in high school, he is part of a local band, working hard to improve his skills and share his love of music with others. 

His journey began at a young age, when he first picked up a guitar in middle school and discovered his love for playing.

“I knew from the moment I started playing that this was what I wanted to do,” Amend said.

His determination to pursue music has only grown stronger over the years, and being part of a band has become an exciting step toward his goals. Despite facing the challenges that come with being a young artist, Amend is focused on continuing to improve.

“The band is a great experience for me,” Amend said. “We all work together and learn from each other.”

Amend’s bandmates have become an important part of his life, and the collaboration and teamwork within the group have helped him become better as a artist. Amend enjoys practicing with them, and the group is dedicated to putting on the best performances they can.  He is also grateful for the constant support of his family. 

“My parents have always been behind me, encouraging me every step of the way,” Amend said.

 He credits his family’s belief in him as one of the driving forces behind his success. 

“They’ve always made sure I have the tools I need, whether it’s a new guitar or just the time to practice,” Amend said.

With their support, Amend feels empowered to chase his dreams towards bigger aspirations.

“My goal is to perform in bigger venues and maybe even record some original songs,¨ Amend said.

Amend is committed to improving his craft and pushing the boundaries of his musical abilities. He hopes to inspire others who have dreams like his.

“If I can help someone else follow their passion, that would be amazing,” Amend said.

With his family behind him and his determination to succeed, Amend is ready to make his mark on the music world.

As he continues to grow as a musician, it’s clear that Amend’s journey is just the start of what he has planned. His passion, along with the support of his family and band, will keep him on the path to success.

“Music builds a sense of community and brings people together,” Amend said.
