“My favorite thing about being a Southwest student is the little things,” Derek Mondragon (‘25) said. “But what I like the most is just being able to see my friends and being able to learn.”

“My favorite song at the moment is ‘Cowpoke’ by Colter Walls,” Trinity Boyd (‘26) said. “It reminds me of when I go to Utah and go driving around with my dad in the fields.”

“My favorite item in my fridge has to be the almost empty Simply Lemonade bottle,” Reilly McCullough (‘27) said. “No one in my house has used the last of it for like a week now. It really means a lot to me.”

My auntie got me VIP tickets because she runs the tickets over for MGM and I got VIP tickets,” Tyler Phui (‘26) said. “I got to see her super up close and I liked the fact that she played all of my favorite songs, it was just a vibe there with my cousin. SZA is awesome and ever since she dropped Snooze and that SOS album, I started listening to her more. She brings a different type of emotion at her concerts and she can really change the mood of the whole concert with just her voice.”

“In elementary school, after recess we’d go to lunch, but suddenly there was snow,” Renzo Omolon (‘26) said. “I think it was February. The teachers allowed us to go outside and play in the snow. I remember going out with my friends and we tried to grab as much snow as we could.”

“I want to be the kind of grandparent my grandkids can come to with their worries, always offering them support,” Haris Gibirila (‘25) said. “I’d love to see myself trying to keep up with the new slang after a long time, and laughing at my attempts. I’ll be the cool grandparent, the one who makes everyone laugh with my dad jokes.”

“My favorite fall activity is going to pumpkin patches because every single year I would go with my childhood friends or my friends from kindergarten,” Eloisa Valelo (‘25) said. “It’s like a little tradition, and I’ll just spend time with them and catch up.”

“I think if I had the chance to get front row seats to any concert, I would probably go with tyler the creator,” Chinelo Umeh (‘26) said. “I see his performances and I think ‘I would never shut up about it if that were me in the front row.’”

“Fall is my favorite season because of the weather and all of the holidays,” Preston Schwartz (‘26) said. “I like when the weather gets cooler because it lets me wear the clothes I want to wear.”

“My favorite phrase is, ‘If you don’t lose, you cannot enjoy the victories,’” Lia Carter (‘27) said. “So I have to accept both things. It gives me the motivation and drive to keep playing and succeeding.”

“If I could make a Crumbl Cookie flavor permanent, I would choose Cinnamon Crunch because I love the flavor or cinnamon,” Tiffany Liang (‘25) said. “Also the texture of the cookie is so much fluffier than anything else they have.”

“I am passionate about Taekwondo, I am a black belt,“ Jean-Pierre Martinez (‘26) said. “It’s a rigorous and hard hobby, it’s very fun for us, we get out and exercise, learn to fight and defend ourselves.”

“This year, my favorite class would definitely be my second period which is Fibers. In Fibers, we learn about how to make different styles of textile art, such as crochet and weaving,” John Pinili (‘27) said. “I enjoy going to this class because it’s a nice change of pace compared to the rest of my schedule. I like how it allows me to work at my own speed when it comes to completing projects.”

“The craziest thing on my life’s bucket list would probably be to go deep sea diving in the Pacific Ocean,” Valentine Holmes (‘26) said. “I’ve always thought that the ocean is so fascinating and I would love to see all the different animals and life down there. Sharks are the only thing that deters me though…”

“I started playing basketball because of my uncle,” Khaizen Jay Escamilla (‘26) said. “He introduced me to it at a young age, and it’s been my sport ever since.”

We walked around, got some food, went to the Lego store and then got Build-A-Bears,” Taliyah Njuguna (‘26) said. “It’s like an annual thing for us now, this being the second year we’ve all gone together. The picture is with the Build-A-Bear mascot, I got a fuzzy highland cow, named her milkshake, after my favorite dairy, and gave her overalls.”

“Something I’m passionate about is Jazzhop,” Stephen Russo (‘27) said. “I thought real hard about it, and I feel like Jazzhop will forever be apart of my personality. I really love it, and I don’t think I will ever have a new favorite genre.”
