“I’m excited about this school year because even though it’s one of the hardest, I like a challenge” Autumn Vorasane (‘27) said. “I procrastinated a lot last year and this year I want to do better.”

“Reading is my favorite hobby because it gives me an escape when school gets hard,” Sophia Ly (‘28) said. “I love to read also because it allows me to be in someone else’s shoes and allows me to empathize with people better.”

“What brings me joy is listening to music because it calms my mind and it’s just so versatile,” Sophia Yuson (‘26) said. “It has a bunch of different moods which set the tone for an event or a hangout and brings people together.”

“I like the ‘How To Train Your Dragon’ movies, because they’re probably like the best movies in existence,” Jessica Dawoud (‘26) said. “Their whole theme is discovery and finding yourself, and it’s like a coming of your age story that has a supernatural element to it.”

“My favorite thing in the world are buttons,” Rachel Zenkell (‘26) said. “Buttons are so cute and cool. They look nice on shirts, they look nice on hair clips, they look nice on hats, pants, and even bags. Buttons are nice because they’re interesting. They come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Some buttons have patterns and some are plain, some have an image of a strawberry. Buttons are cool.“

“On weekends, I personally enjoy exploring my hobbies,” Gabreen Tabernilla (‘28) said. “This includes playing the guitar, volleyball, sketching, reading the Bible, and so much more. I like to enhance my knowledge on complex things and interests to expand not just my talents but my participation with things i want to learn and improve on.“

“As I enter my final year here at Southwest, I am most looking forward to experiencing my last of every single event on campus,” Tyler Moran (‘26) said. “From the Back to School Assembly, Movie Night, Homecoming, Prom, and so much more, each tradition holds a special place in my heart. Every year, I’ve watched these events grow tremendously and become better than the last. Being a member of Student Council has given me the privilege of contributing to that growth and creating memories not just for myself, but for the entire student body. I am eager to see how the year unfolds. I hope to leave behind a legacy of spirit, involvement, and pride in our school that future classes can continue to build upon.“

“I’ve been picking up art again as a hobby. I love it in all of its medias! Music, literature, paintings, films— I think it’s the most beautiful way to express and interpret things,” Quynh Nhu Nguyen (‘26) said. “I don’t have a routine anymore, but seeing art as a way to wind down and communicate has helped me a lot.”

“I like to read comic books,” Santino John Acero (‘26) said. “As a kid, I watched all the Marvel movies and I wanted to expand my knowledge on the Marvel Universe.”

“My favorite extracurricular that I’m currently doing is probably volunteering,” Kaitlyn Graves (‘26) said. “I volunteer at the library every week, and we always do something different. Right now, we’re working on a display for the teen area that’s going to be put up around summertime, and it’s based on a certain country [with] a bunch of fun facts and everything so people can learn about different places.”

“My favorite exotic animal is a capybara because they’re the type of animals to get along with anything or anyone else and [they are] very social which is what I like about them,” Natalia Svikruhova (‘27) said. “Even though I would love to have one as a pet, they seem to be high maintenance.”

“My favorite sport would have to be football,” Jayden Kroman (‘25) said. “I watch it all the time with my family and it’s the most exciting sport in my opinion. My favorite team is the New York Giants.”

“The most recent show I’ve binged watched was Chunibyo,” Ronaldo Dela Cruz (‘27) said. “It’s a really cute show and the fight scenes are really well done.”

“Hockey is the best sport in the world with how fast and exciting it is,” Carter Sims (‘27) said. “There is never a dull moment in a game.”

“A memory from my childhood that still sticks with me today is when I first touched a basketball,” Noha Tiku (‘28) said. “This is because when I touched a basketball, I fell in love with the sport. Still to this day I play. I play for leagues, AAU, tournaments, for fun, and etc.”

“The worst meal I’ve ever eaten was adobo, specifically chicken adobo,” Michael Lazaro (‘25) said. “For some reason, I just don’t really like the texture and the taste of it. Ever since my childhood, I didn’t really like the dish and as I grew up I disliked it more, so I just can’t eat it anymore. I prefer Filipino desserts instead, specifically taho.”
