Rockin’ Crab is a seafood spot off of Blue Diamond Road in Las Vegas. I would consider it a hidden gem, being located in an easily passed corner in the Albertsons parking lot. Despite the location, the large bold sign and banner made it hard to miss. The exterior was ordinary, with posters on the windows emphasizing their meal deals that caught my attention. Taking a closer look at the windows, the inside was oddly small, with tables on the side of both walls and a spacious empty center.
As I stepped into Rockin’ Crab, I was greeted by a friendly staff member at the counter. He immediately welcomed me as I was barely halfway through the door, which set a pleasant environment for the rest of the visit. The restaurant automatically had a sense of warmth, with inviting features such as bright yellow lights that set the mood for a cozy and modern dining experience, as well as fishnet-like decorations on the ceiling hanging down to match the sea theme. The restaurant offered both booth and chair seating, with extremely clean tables and floors, almost spotless. I could tell that the tables were designed to handle the mess of cracking shells, as they had a protective and removable layer on top.
The cashier was friendly and gave plenty of information regarding the menu when I asked what he recommended, as it was my first time there. He recommended their popular pick, “Rockin’ Combo.” Gloves, scissors, and plenty of napkins were given to prepare for the feast ahead.
The menu is fully-centered on customizable seafood boils, where guests choose their own combination of seafood and spice level. I went with the popular pick, “Rockin Combo” ($43). This combo included a half pound of crab legs, half pound of head on shrimp, with a four pack of medley (egg, sausage, potato, corn), spice level at medium, and to top off the meal, I ordered a strawberry lemonade ($6.25). The wait time took around 10 to 15 minutes, which was not long considering I was the only one seated.
As I received the order, the aroma hit immediately: savory and intense. The first selection I ate from the seafood boil was the head-on shrimp. The first bite was full of flavor, as the shrimp was perfectly coated in the sauce, offering a satisfying bite every time. The sauce was unexpectedly sweeter than I anticipated, but it enhanced the shrimp more as it was still warm. Considering the price, the portion and size of shrimp were surprisingly smaller than expected. The crab legs were well coated with a large amount of sauce, which were quite messy to crack open, as one would expect. For most of the crab legs, there wasn’t enough meat to satisfy my appetite. For the combo costing $43, that has to be the biggest complaint, as the portion was rather small and barely offered any crab meat to feast on. As for the four medleys, they were perfectly absorbed in the sauce. The corn and potato were very soft and melted in my mouth with every bite.
For my last and final item, I sampled the strawberry lemonade ($6.25). I wanted to balance out the meal with a beverage and experience more while I was there. I went with something refreshing and sweet. It was nice and iced, with the perfect balance of sweet and sour. The sweetness from the strawberry syrup blended with the sour lemonade, which was a perfect way to wash down from the savory seafood boil.
My experience at Rockin’ Crab was pleasant, as the service was excellent and friendly. The food itself was enjoyable, as well as the vibe of the interior design of the space. I would come back as it is a close place for seafood boils. Though for pricing and portions, the pricing could be slightly improved due to the small portion size. All in all, I can say that Rockin’ Crab is worth trying for its flavorful menu.
