When you think of breakfast, you may think of eggs, toast, or bacon; not a blue and pink tie dye bagel with M&M cream cheese. The Bagel Nook has just opened its first west coast location in Downtown Summerlin, offering tons of uniquely flavored bagels, cream cheeses, coffees, and various pastries.

Upon entering the restaurant, guests are greeted by welcoming staff and a vibrant hand-painted mural. There are indoor and outdoor seating areas, but I couldn’t help but notice that the tables inside were a little bit cramped.

To start, I ordered The Popeye on a poppy bagel ($10.75), which is a breakfast sandwich with egg whites, spinach, grilled turkey, and swiss cheese. The bagel itself was average, but I didn’t have many expectations for the more generic flavors. All of the flavors mixed together well, but leaned a little more on the salty side. It also wouldn’t have hurt to have some more spinach either. Even though I’m not a big breakfast person, I’d definitely order it again with those notes in mind.

Out of the variety of their specialty bagels, I decided to order the Hot Cheeto bagel ($2.35) with plain cream cheese ($2.74). The cream cheese was delicious and had the perfect texture, but the amount that was on it overpowered the taste of the bagel. I could only taste a slight spicy kick, but nothing close enough to what I had imagined. After scraping some of the cream cheese off, it still lacked the spice that you’d get from a bag of Flamin’ Hot. But, it was a lot more filling than it looked, making any flavor combination worth its price.

The Bagel Nook is best known for their “overloads,” so I knew that I had to try the Cookie Monster Overload ($9.49). This hefty creation is an Oreo bagel with Cookie Monster cream cheese, Oreo cookies, and a chocolate chip cookie. For the amount of sugary treats stuffed into the bagel, there was a nice balance of sweetness. All of the chocolate and cream flavors complimented each other. It makes for a tasty, shareable snack between two, or even three people, since it weighs at least half a pound.

Whether you’re doing some quick shopping in the area, or even having an entire day out with friends, The Bagel Nook is a delightful stop for a snack/meal. While it doesn’t topple the iconic pretzel stand for “Best Mall Snack,” I’ll be sure to return and try some new flavors.
