The last month in sports has been action-packed in every sense of the word, so let’s take a look back.
LOCAL SPORTS:
The Las Vegas Golden Knights won 10 of their 13 games last month, with their biggest victories being against the Penguins, Blue Jackets, and the Minnesota Wild.
Josh Berry won the Pennzoil 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway ahead of Daniel Suarez and Ryan Preece. Berry’s win marked the 101st win for the Wood Brothers Racing team and their first since the 2024 Coke Zero 400.
NBA:
Five NBA players were banned temporarily because of a brawl that occurred during the March 30 game between the Detroit Pistons and Minnesota Timberwolves. Donte DiVincenzo, Ron Holland II, Naz Reid, and Marcus Sasser were given one-game bans, while Isaiah Stewart will be sidelined for two games.
UFL:
The St. Louis Battlehawks won the UFL kickoff game against the Houston Roughnecks 31-6. The first touchdown of the season was scored by St. Louis runningback Jacob Saylors with 4:39 remaining in the first quarter. Houston went scoreless until the fourth quarter with 2:24 remaining. WR Justin Hall scored the first touchdown, but the team missed the extra point.
MOTORSPORTS:
The 2025 Formula 1 Louis Vuitton Australian Grand Prix was won by Lando Norris ahead of Max Verstappen and George Russell. The race was headlined by multiple rain showers and weather changes. Rookie Isack Hadjar crashed in turn one during the formation lap, which caused an aborted start. Lap one saw the end of Jack Doohan and Carlos Sainz’s races after crashes in both turn five and 14. Oscar Piastri lost control of his McLaren during a short rain stint in the late stages of the race. He treaded through the gravel trap on the outside of turn 11, sending him into a spin across the track in turn 12. He found himself beached on the grass on the outside of the track but was able to reverse out and continue on to score points.
Formula 1 followed up the Australian GP with the Heineken Chinese Grand Prix last Sunday. The sprint race was won by Lewis Hamilton–from pole position, and the race was won by Oscar Piastri. Red Bull driver Liam Lawson qualified last for both the sprint and race, finishing outside the points in both. After Sunday’s race, Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc, and Lewis Hamilton were all disqualified for not following technical regulations.
