The last week in sports has been a very interesting one. Championships are winding down as other ones are just warming up, so let’s dive right in!
LOCAL SPORTS:
The Las Vegas Golden Knights won two of their three games last week, 3-2 against the Anaheim Ducks, 4-2 against the Utah Hockey Club, and a 5-2 loss against the Washington Capitals to cap off the week. Aside from the games, VGK announced they signed a contract extension with Brayden McNabb for $10.95 million over a three-year period.
The Las Vegas Raiders’ returned from their BYE week on Sunday to play the Miami Dolphins. It was yet another unfortunate loss with the Raiders only taking home 19 points to the Dolphins’ 34. The Raiders only scored two touchdowns while the Dolphins scored four. The Raiders left the game without any major highlights that would have improved the public opinion of the team with the Dolphins scoring a 57-yard drive in the fourth quarter.
NFL:
The San Francisco 49ers took a very near loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday–a loss that echoed through the country. Fans of the 49ers reacted very negatively to the 17-20 loss, blaming the early return of running back Christian McCaffrey. McCaffrey returned to the NFL in week 11 after suffering from Achilles tendinitis in both legs early in the season.
EXTRA SPORTS:
In the world of boxing, last Friday held the highly anticipated match between Jake Paul and boxing legend Mike Tyson. Jake Paul won the fight by unanimous decision after the match lasted all ten rounds. Netflix–broadcaster of the fight–suffered many issues throughout the live stream with its servers being unable to handle the estimated 60 million households that watched the fight.
THIS WEEK:
The Golden Knights will take on their usual three-game schedule this week against an all-Canadian lineup: the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Ottawa Senators, and the Montreal Canadiens.
The Raiders play the Denver Broncos yet again on Sunday at 1:05 pm PST at Allegiant Stadium.
The Formula 1 Heineken Silver Las Vegas Grand Prix takes place this Thursday through Saturday. Max Verstappen–if he wins–will win the World Drivers’ Championship two races early ahead of his biggest competitor, Lando Norris. Norris, in order to continue the championship fight, needs to outscore Verstappen by at least three points.
