YUDA Bands is a new service learning project and fundraiser sponsored by Student Council that aims to raise funds in support of children’s education in third-world countries.

“It feels good to know that we are building scholarships for children and teenagers in developing countries. It’s an honor to be apart of this project,” freshman Xueying Zheng said.

A YUDA Band is a handcrafted leather bracelet made in Guatemala with a small design engraved on a coconut shell which can be purchased during both lunches for $7.

‘’Knowing that I could change a students life and help provide an education for them is an amazing feeling. Every student deserves a chance to learn,” freshman Mekha Omarimuhammad said.

Student Council will be sponsoring three students from different countries with unique stories. The beneficiaries of the scholarship are chosen through the YUDA Bands Scholarship Program based on their academics, dedication, and economic needs. The three students that Student Council will be sponsoring are Cristian Ajbal from Xesjuncar, Jilotepeque, Festus Mubanga from Lusaka, Zambia, and Maria Cristina from Guayaquil, Ecuador.
