On Friday May 27th, the Las Vegas Review Journal held the 2011 High School Journalism Awards Luncheon. The Southwest Shadow was one of 23 different high school journalism organizations in attendance. The Southwest Shadow was awarded “Best News Site,” which judges the entire newspaper site as a whole. Jordan Sutton received an Honorable Mention in the “Best News Photo” category with her visual contribution to “Every 15 Minutes DUI Crash on Shelbourne Ave.” Bserat Ghebremicael received two Honorable Mentions. One was in the “Best Feature Story” category with her article “Reality Check for Student Principal.” The other award was in the “Best Entertainment Story” category for her interview with All-Star Weekend. Tazia Statucki was named SWCTA Most Valuable Staffer and also took home 2nd place in the Best Editorial category for the article “Sports and Spirit or a Lack Thereof.”
