A new digital college and career board in the Upper C hallway aims to help students explore options after graduation.
The board, which went live last month, was coordinated by counselor Janelle Kelly and is part of a new partnership by NextGrad that offers schools both digital content and a $500 student scholarship.
“It’s just another creative way to get kids’ attention and give information,” Kelly said. “I met with a team of people and told them our demographics and what we were looking for, and then we basically got chosen to have the board.”
For now, the board is located in Upper C, chosen because of its high senior traffic and access to power outlets, but its location won’t be permanent.
“We want to move it every quarter to different parts of the campus,” Kelly said. “We’re still trying to find the best place where the most students will see it.”
Since the board is new to the C hallway, students like senior Drue Ramos are still getting familiar with it.
“I believe that it is useful for juniors and seniors to have a place for their college information,” senior Drue Ramos said. “Not everyone looks at their emails, so a place for them where they can walk around and just sit as they’re walking is more beneficial to them than an email on the website.”
Teachers like English 11 teacher Jacob Hill sees the potential in the board.
“I think the idea of the board and the intention behind it are good,” Hill said. “It could benefit the kids by helping them learn about different colleges and hopefully make a choice.”
The overall goal is to impact students in the long run, as they begin to learn what kind of information it offers.
“I think that there’s so much information out there, and students don’t always read emails or newsletters,” Kelly said. “To me, this is just one more way to get info out there, and if it helps even a few students, it’s worth it.”
