The last week in sports has not disappointed us fans. Let’s take a look back at what has happened throughout the week.
LOCAL SPORTS:
The Vegas Golden Knights took three very dominant wins in all their games last week. The Knights started with a 6-1 win against the L.A. Kings on Tuesday. The first goal of that game was scored by VGK’s Tomas Hertl. The first goal for the Kings was scored by Warren Foegele at the end of the second period. The Knights played two more games throughout the week, one against the Senators, and another against the San Jose Sharks. VGK won 6-4 against the Senators and 7-3 against the Sharks.
The Las Vegas Raiders lost once again in their game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs had a higher number of passing yards, rushing yards, and yards per play to cruise home to an easy 27-20 victory against our home team.
NBA
The NBA officially started their regular season last Tuesday with the first official game being played between the New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics. The Celtics won 132-109. Some highlights from the game include when Miles McBride of the Knicks made an incredible last-minute three-pointer in the first quarter. Jayson Tatum scored 25 points in just the first half, and scored 37 total by the end of the game.
The Golden State Warriors took an incredibly dominant win against the Utah Jazz on Friday, winning 127-86. The Warriors’ top scorer of the game, Buddy Hield, scored 13 more points than the Jazz’ top scorer with only 14 points.
MOTORSPORTS:
Carlos Sainz won the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix ahead of Lando Norris who overtook Charles Leclerc for P2 only a few laps before the finish. The entire weekend was filled with utter chaos as multiple cars crashed on the first lap with Yuki Tsunoda and Alex Albon retiring from the race after their collision at turn one. That collision brought out the safety car and once it pulled back into the pits Carlos Sainz went on to chase Max Verstappen for the lead into turn one. Sainz gained the lead and left Verstappen to fend off against title rival Lando Norris into turn four. Norris went around the outside of the corner to take the position but was forced off by Verstappen and had to cut the corner while keeping the position. Heading into turn eight, Verstappen made a risky maneuver which sent both him and Norris right off the track allowing Leclerc through.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli, 2025 Mercedes driver, took part in his second free practice session for Mercedes at the Mexico City GP. Antonelli had previously taken part in the Italian GP’s first practice session, however after a crash in Monza’s famous Parabolica corner, Antonelli failed to gain much F1 experience. The young Italian was outpaced by fellow rookies Liam Lawson and Franco Colapinto.
Tyler Reddick won the Straight Talk Wireless 400 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday ahead of Ryan Blaney and 23XI team owner Denny Hamlin. The race saw multiple current championship contenders lose form through the race with Kyle Larson getting a flat tire mid-race and hitting the wall. NASCAR’s junior truck series saw strong controversy in its Homestead-Miami race after championship contender Conner Jones intentionally crashed into his rival, Matt Mills. Mills found himself hospitalized after the incident due to a heavy amount of smoke inhalation when the car caught fire after contact with the wall.
“I underestimated the impact my actions would have on Matt, and I deeply regret the consequences that followed.” Jones said in a statement, “I would like to extend my sincerest apologies to Matt, Niece Motorsports, NASCAR, and my entire ThorSport Racing team for my unsportsmanlike behavior.”
