Educators are currently facing the largest literacy crisis in United States history. In the Clark County School District, more than half of all high schoolers failed to demonstrate proficient reading skills for their grade level in 2025. “I think what can help students my age read more is being pushed to find easier books to read that entertain them,” sophomore Nolan Pacheco said. “Most people, when they try to start reading, they start with something that’s too hard of a reading level for them, so they get bored too quickly and think that all books are like that. Reading and starting smaller would be good so you at least have that foundation.”

Declining reading skills across the nation’s youth are raising urgent questions about the state of education and the future of society.
The fear of missing out (FOMO) has been shown to have adverse effects on many teenagers’ confidence. FOMO is especially commonly experienced in teenagers. “I think the most frustrating part about experiencing FOMO is the fact that you can't necessarily do anything about it,” senior Branson Williams said. “You know your feelings aren't going to be known unless you say something to the people that you know may have left you out in a situation. [It’s] the fact that nobody's going to know how you really feel unless you tell them.”
