Not earning an award for the first time bruised my ego, but I won something greater–pride for my staff and publication.
Privilege in race and gender is still prevalent in society, even after the significant political and societal improvements made over the years, and it effects me heavily. With some of my positive actions being ignored because of my skin color and gender, I feel like I am being erased by the fear and each missed opportunity I am experiencing.
