From the moment we stepped into this school as clueless freshmen to now as we prepare to leave it behind, the five of us have changed in more ways than we can count. Take a look at how we started, how we spent our time here, and where life is taking us next.
Hello, I'm Philipos. The past four years I’ve spent at Southwest have been some of the best of my life. I helped organize events as president of the Black Student Union, used my jeopardy skills when competing for the varsity quiz bowl team, brushed up on political philosophy as a member of the “We The People” civics program, and most important of all, I had the honor to edit stories by the amazing staff of this newspaper every deadline as the editor in chief. In a couple months I will head over to Cambridge, MA to study Computer Science at Harvard University.
Even with all the late nights spent working on articles and endless amounts of stories to edit, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do as a part of this paper was say goodbye to it. The kid that first walked into that C122 classroom four years ago is not the same one stepping out, and I am so grateful for everyone who made that possible. I’ve made lifelong friends in this newspaper and learned skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Being editor in chief was by far the highlight of my high school career, and I can’t wait to read what this incredible staff cooks up for years to come.
