FCCLA, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Advisor: Mr. Harbseon
Room: E126
Members will begin their star events to build upon their career skills.
“We are having a star event workshop,” Vice President of Public Relations Janna Bouffard said. “Star events are made for students to take action with recognition with a project based on specific consumer science skills such as fashion, entrepreneurship, teaching interior design and culinary. These projects are meant to build students’ consumer science skills within specific careers to gain leadership skills within their careers. They learn how to do things and gain a lot of communication, leadership and problem solving skills. ”
The meeting is intended to introduce each of the events; members will be able to pick events they might be interested in.
“We are going to talk more about what everyone wants to do,” Bouffard said. “Everyone can pick which star events they want, but we have certain things some of the freshmen can’t do or senior-only events, things like that. We’re having a workshop on that and just going to talk more about it, go more in depth, then have everyone start researching which one they want to do.”
K-Pop Club, 2nd and 4th Thursdays
Advisor: Ms. Barnish and Mr. Hill
Room: C221
The club will begin to prepare for an upcoming performance in the PA/DA assembly, learning new choreography than the club has been previously used to.
“We’re preparing for the PA/DA assembly, because K-Pop Club is going to be performing for that,” president Tyrah Lamay said. “We’re putting everyone into formations for the dance. We can’t share what we’re gonna be dancing to exactly, but we’re gonna be doing the first boy group dance at the assembly in a couple years because we’ve only done girl group dances.”
New members are encouraged to participate in the performance as the club will be learning building on the routine that was initially taught at the previous meeting.
“I am looking forward to getting to know the new members and to see what we can do this year,” Lamay said. “The club has been going pretty good. Last meeting, we taught the dance and that went pretty smoothly, so overall everything has been going well.”
Volleyball Club, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Thursdays
Advisor: Ms. Almodovar
Room: Gym
Volleyball Club will continue their regular sessions, with a section for new students interested in learning volleyball and separate courts for students ready to play at different levels.
“Your skill level doesn’t matter,” president Henry Lewis said. “There’s people there that like to teach you, so if you want to try it out, give it a shot. We set up three courts. One has hitting lines and we let you practice your serves with people that either want to practice, are getting better, or are new to and want to learn. We also have games for people that are ready to play and put what they’ve learned to practice, which is more competitive.”
The club would also like possible members to know that they are interested in setting up matches with schools in the area, with West Tech being a possibility.
“We might start figuring out who the best at our school are to have them play in our exhibition game,” president Henry Lewis said. “It gives students at our school the opportunity to participate in games against other schools, because we don’t normally have that option.”
The Meteorology Association, 1st and 3rd Wednesdays
Advisor: Mr. Lacombe
Room: H211
The club is going to be diving into some new topics for the year, with an accompanying mini lesson and an experiment in the works.
“We’ll have a fun experiment to go along with it and a mini lesson, but don’t want to repeat what we’ve done, just wanting to keep it cool and new,” president Brian Price said. “It may be a harder topic than what we usually do, especially since we started off with easier concepts.”
Overall, the club is finding success with their gardens and forecasts, another aspect they hope to introduce new members to.
“We’ve made a lot of progress,” Price said. “We have done well with the hydroponics and are just now waiting for cooler temperatures to use actual garden beds. We have done pretty well especially with our forecasts on the announcements.”
