FCCLA, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Adviser: Mr. Harbeson
Room: E127
Members will be participating in a student workshop to come up with ideas for their STAR projects.
“It’s a project-based event that’s goal is to promote leadership, community and career based skills,” FCCLA President Violet Moreno said. “The members work on their projects for the whole year up until March, where they can compete for medals and scholarship opportunities at the state competition. Each project is personal and different to each member. The process is really fun and rewarding working towards an end goal throughout the year.”
Moreno hopes this workshop will persuade more people to compete in the state leadership conference in March.
“State’s really fun and a great bonding experience for both the upperclassmen and lower classmen,” Moreno said. “Not many people went last year, and it would be great to get more people involved this time around. When everyone’s going through the same experience of creating their projects, presenting and competing, it allows them [club members] to connect as a family. That’s something FCCLA is about.”
Key Club, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays
Adviser: Mr. Nicolas
Room: Lunchroom
The board will be hosting an ice cream sandwich fundraiser and a paper cranes service activity.
“We’ll be making paper cranes for the Wishing Crane Project,” President Aanja Abilar said. “Each origami crane made at the meeting will include a positive message and will be donated to local hospitals as a way to instill hope into hospice and hospital patients’ lives.”
Key Club will also be preparing for their upcoming Regional Training Conference rally.
“For the remainder of the meeting we’ll be conducting RTC cheer practice,” Abilar said. “Also, with RTC getting pushed back a week later, I’m trying to schedule another meeting specifically for RTC prep for all the members attending. Our roster for members attending RTC is completely full this year, so I’m looking forward to getting everyone psyched and prepared.
Meteorology Association, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
Adviser: Ms. Kelly
Room: H207
The Meteorology Association will be preparing to build school gardens. These gardens will include both traditional and hydroponic variations.
“This project will be to create a visually appearing environment that we as Nevadans don’t see everyday,” Chief Meteorologist Brian Price said. “There are many other purposes too, such as offering volunteer hours to students that want to participate in growing and managing the gardens, beautification of the campus community, and of course for fun!”
Price hopes their first meeting will persuade more people to join the club
“A few takeaways that I think people should take to heart is our purpose for Meteorology Club and our goals,” Price said. “Despite what people may think, we have lots of cool ideas for activities, and we need all the help and support we can possibly have to aid us throughout our journey this school year.”
FBLA, 2nd and 4th Thursdays
Adviser: Mr. Barranco
Room: C102
FBLA will be discussing their Champion Charter program and announcing their first member of the month.
“Members who have significant involvement in FBLA have an opportunity to become members of the month,” President Adrienne Marie Vera-Perez said. “This month we’re focusing on recognizing members that completed a lot of community service for the CTSO Relay for Life event.”
The board will also be preparing the members for their competitions for the state conference.
“We’re trying our best to make the club a lot more organized than it was last year,” Vera-Perez said. “This is especially important with the large number of new members interested in going to the state conference. We’re trying to plan more ahead for our chapter meetings and compile more resources together to help members select and prepare for their competitive events.
Drama Club, 2nd and 4th Thursdays
Adviser: Ms. De La Fuente
Room: C124
Drama Club will be setting the stage for board position elections.
“When elections begin, I’ll be asking them for a short speech about why they want to run for the specific position,” President Zoey Ching said. “They’re small positions but they all have important roles. We’re looking for a stage, prop, and tech manager.”
As a new club looking to make an impact on the school, Ching hopes to get permission to host school plays.
“The goal is to affect the school in a positive way,” Ching said. “All these plans are obviously still in the works, but we have a location in mind. I’m planning to have our stage, prop, and tech managers add their ideas once they get elected and have the rest of the members be the actors playing the characters.”
