Lifehacks: Crochet Edition By Shayna Migalang

Crochet, while a relaxing and fulfilling hobby, can be difficult to master. Here are three hacks that can help you crochet more efficiently, as well as fix any problems your project possesses.

1. Yarn Through Binder Clip

I have a lot of trouble keeping my yarn in a simple thread, often wrapping multiple loops around my finger which makes it more difficult to chain. A bowl or basket and a binder clip can fix this issue.

Rating: 8/10. This works extremely well when it comes to keeping the yarn in place. However, it loses points for transportation due to the fact that there's not always a place to attach the clip.

2. Wet Blocking

Wet blocking is a common technique for crocheters to flatten out projects. All you have to do is submerge your crochet into water and dry it.

Rating: 9/10. The idea of wet blocking sounded crazy to me at first, but I'll admit it does a solid job at flattening out my projects. I just wish it didn't require rigorous amounts of squeezing and an entire night for it to completely dry.

3. Paper Clip Marker

Crochet markers are great tools that help crocheters keep track of their chains. However, they are not commonly found in households. Paper clips can serve as a replacement for them.

Rating: 4/10. This substitution could be beneficial in some cases, like when it's difficult to find the chain you need to insert your hook through, but this is canceled out by how clumsy it feels to work around a giant metal wire. Purchasing crochet markers would probably be the better option.
