Life Hacks: Steak Edition By: Truong Phan

Whether you're a professional chef or a home cook, steak is a fan-favorite dish that anyone can make. Here are some hacks to make your life easier when cooking steak.

1. Seasoning after cooking instead of prior

When I was learning to cook steak, I had heard of this hack but didn't have the patience to try it. Usually, steaks are supposed to be seasoned before they hit the pan, but this hack makes you season after cooking.

Rating: 7/10. This hack is simple and works as intended. If you want to keep the moisture in your steak, this is the hack for you.

2. Pan-seared steak (Oven finished)

For this hack, all you need to do is to sear your steak on both sides, then place it in the oven at 350°F for 7-10 minutes. The result should be a perfectly cooked steak.

Rate: 10/10. A steak's doneness can be hard to judge with traditional pan-searing. However, with this method, the steak will always come out perfectly medium-rare.

3. Making Herb Butter

This hack consists of combining herbs, such as cilantro, and butter to add flavor to your steak.

Rate: 7/10. It's a good hack, and it does add flavor to the steak. However, having to prepare the butter by cutting herbs is a bit of a hassle, so I am going to stick with only butter and olive oil.
