After receiving a promotion, Dean Matthew Spurk will be leaving for the assistant principal position at Garside Junior High School, today.
“I feel like I’m going home,” Spurk said. “I already worked there, I know the administration and I know the teachers, so I’m going somewhere I already know well.”
Since Nov. 4, Spurk has been supervising facilities and discipline issues.
“I understand that a promotion is a promotion, but I wish we had a dean that would stay here,” senior Maya Negash said. “I wish there was a quick replacement and we had someone ready to take his place.”
This is the second dean to leave this year, after Pate Thomas was promoted to the assistant principal position at Shadow Ridge High School.
“I would’ve loved to stay here, but others will do anything to get me to work there,” Spurk said. “I enjoyed working here for the month and I enjoyed all of it.”
Currently, the administration are looking for a replacement assistant principal because CCSD has removed the dean position for starting in 2021.
“Working here was a good experience and I would stay if I could, but others are giving me bigger and better offers,” Spurk said. “I loved the environment here and all the kids were so mature, but it’s time I go home.”
