Wednesday morning, several large wildfires originating in Southern California have pushed smoke, haze, and polluted air into Las Vegas. The air quality index has been determined to have a score of 166, signaling that it is unhealthy.
The Line Fire in San Bernardino County, California, the Bridge Fire in Los Angeles, and the Airport Fire in Orange and Riverside county are primarily to blame for the smoky skies.
“I first thought that it was just really cloudy outside, until I saw on the news that there were fires,” sophomore Evey Kim said. “Then my sister opened up the door and it just smelled like smoke. It was so stuffy.”
Teachers have been advised to keep students indoors, and to only let them leave if it is absolutely necessary. During lunches, overflow of students from the cafeteria will be sent to E and F buildings.
