After the success of last year’s tournament, BSU members are organizing the next basketball tournament. This time, the event will involve multiple schools to help boost school spirit.
”Our goal for this club is to have school spirit and we’re just trying to do something new that hasn’t been brought to this school,” Parliamentarian Elohea Mandefero said. “That’s why we’re bringing in other schools like VISTA [Sierra Vista High School], in order to show how we’re united as one.”
Students have been talking to other school’s BSU board members, like Spring Valley and Sierra Vista, to join them for the basketball tournament.
“This is the first year that we are having multiple schools, so it is a very thrilling event for me and the other BSU members,” Feruth Yemane said. “This event is made for us all to come together and have fun.”
Food and drinks will be sold during the game and tickets will cost $5 per person.
“I’m so excited for this, I have a good feeling that it is going to turn out great,” President Philipos Alebachew said. “I hope others are as happy as I am and that many will show up to this game.”
Anyone interested in forming a team of five can sign up and participate in the tournament, alongside a designated BSU team. While it’s not confirmed yet, students are considering organizing a teacher team.
“We did this last year and it was a pretty big hit,” Yemane said. “Everyone loved it so we’re turning it into a yearly tradition.”
BSU is ensuring that referees will be arranged in advance, and members are planning to create an advertising video to promote the tournament.
“I hope that everything goes according to plan and that everyone will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed arranging it,” Secretary Christina Altaye said. “I can’t wait to see how competitive people will be and how everything will go.”
