Working together with various clubs, Black Student Union (BSU) and Student Council (StuCo) are organizing Winterfest. It is currently scheduled to take place on Friday, Jan. 24 from 2-4 PM.
The event aims to create a fun space for clubs and students alike by having 13 different booths operated by clubs and six operated by BSU and StuCo.
“Winterfest is a chance where all clubs could come and have a festival with students in the school being involved,” BSU Co-President Rediate Hunde said. “Last semester, people were already asking ‘Oh, when can I sign up for Winterfest?’ It’ll be really exciting.”
BSU, along with StuCo, plans to bring plenty of opportunities for students to participate in activities offered by various clubs.
“Psychology Club is planning a slime-making station for Winterfest,” Psychology Club vice president Zoe Nunez Garcia said. “It’ll consist of three stations: one for the base, one for the toppings, and one for the packaging. I think people will enjoy it since we did it last year and it was a success.”
To encourage students to actively engage in the event, BSU, with StuCo, has implemented new incentives for those partaking in the festivities.
“Since we’re having a lot of clubs collaborate, we’re going to have this train ticket where we get to stamp each student that goes to each club,” StuCo Treasurer Alyssa Ramirez said. “If you do every one, you get a prize at the end.”
Food and beverages will also be for sale during the event
“There are some different food options [from last year],” StuCo adviser Michael Woxland said. “I think we’ve got a few new options that might be enticing, [like] boba [and] Wetzel’s Pretzels.”
StuCo and BSU have worked to improve the event from the year prior, including with the booths being free this time.
“This year, we’re trying to mix it up more because last year was the first year [we’ve done Winterfest], and we’ve definitely learned a lot,” Hunde said. “We’re trying to have more activities and more games that people can play.”
