Looking forward to their upcoming state competition in March, the club begins preparations for their STAR projects.
“We plan to have our members work on their projects and have a chance to ask the board for assistance with anything from project ideas, resources, and anything else they need for their projects,” President Violet Moreno said. “Our biggest priority right now is helping our members develop their STAR projects so that we are prepared for when our state competition comes around.”
In addition to preparing for their competition, FCCLA will be teaming up with SHFAA for their pet food donation drive.
“Our goal for this drive is to give students and clubs a change to donate pet food for the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Nevada SPCA),” Moreno said. “By raising donations of dog and cat food, we hope to support pet families in need.”

NHS prepares for their joint meeting with Key Club.
“This is not the first time we had a joint meeting with Key Club,” Treasurer Eloisa Valelo said. “We collaborated with them once before during the 22-23 school year, but this will be the first we’ve had in a while. The members can look forward to a fun and interactive meeting. Since we’ll be working alongside Key Club who’s always full of spirit, it’ll be a nice change of pace for our members.”
Members will be working together to create dog toys from t-shirts.
“Our members can get lots of service hours from this meeting, so I hope they take advantage of this opportunity,” Valelo said. “They can receive hours from making the dog toys and donating t-shirts for us to use.”

Members will be able to continue working on their baby mittens and hats for the club’s first fundraiser.
“The baby mittens are our first volunteer opportunity and we hope to do more in the future,” President Rena Zewdie said. “Since we noticed that baby mittens and hats were a bit difficult for our beginner members, we are looking into making blankets for dog shelters. These volunteer opportunities have been a very fun activity for our club, and I hope to continue to have more in the future.”
With the holiday season approaching, the club looks forward to having special activities for its members.
“As a board, we haven’t decided what to create for the holidays,” Zewdie said. “Usually we have a day where we make Christmas themed keychains and it’s become somewhat of a tradition, so I plan to keep that going. Other than that, we may have a little Christmas party, but that depends on how much time we have to plan one.”
