Criminology & Forensics Club, 1st and 3rd Tuesdays
Adviser: Charlotte Lakeotes
Room: C107
The club is preparing to look into criminal and forensic psychology and how stereotyping plays a role in the perception of criminals.
“We’re going to have them draw out what they think of when they picture a criminal or a serial killer,” President Allee Lin said. “It’s to prove that they’re stereotyping them, because most people will draw out tattoos, middle-aged men with beards, and things like that. We’re gonna differentiate that from other categories like white collar crimes to prove that it can be anyone and try to get rid of that stigma.”
Being a new organization on campus, the club encourages new members to join the meetings and see what it is all about.
“Getting new club members is a little bit hard, but I think that’s to be expected with how many other organizations there are on campus,” Lin said. “I would just say to try the club out, even if you don’t like it [criminology and forensics], or even if you hate it. We do a lot of cool stuff and we have snacks, there’s a lot to look forward to. In the future, we’re planning to do a mock murder scene and I think people would really enjoy it if they just give it a chance.”
Dungeons & Dragons Club, 1st and 3rd Wednesdays
Adviser: Levi Harbeson
Room: E126
Continuing with their usual meeting agenda, the club is carrying on with their gameplay.
“We’re going to be playing ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ pretty much the whole time,” President Andrew Bennett said. “We’ve got a good schedule going on and it’s pretty much the same thing every week, more game planning, more game hosting. We’re definitely going to have some good camaraderie going on within our group.”
As the club continues to meet, the meetings provide members the opportunity to cultivate their friendships through the game.
“We started off in our little groups and we’ve expanded further on our friendship within those groups,” Bennett said. “We’ve also had a lot of people branching out of those groups and making jokes with other different campaigns that are running, so it’s allowing us to kind of just grow as a club family.”
Book Club, 1st and 3rd Thursdays
Adviser: Amy Lutz
Room: H213
The club will be discussing their chosen book of the month.
“During this next meeting, we’re just going to be discussing the first half of our new book for November,” Historian Joanna Mengistu said. “‘UBIK’ is the book we’ve chosen for this month. It’s a pretty old, classical science fiction book.”
Having chosen a new genre for this month’s book, members will be able to share their thoughts and opinions.
“We have a small number of members in our club, so I’m hoping we can have a good discussion and overall have fun,” Mengistu said. “This book is different from what we’ve read before since it’s science fiction and it’s a lot older than the previous books we’ve read, so I’m excited to see how it turns out.”
