Graphic Design III students are becoming more prepared than ever for the job market. They have been building their digital portfolios and are now in the process of creating their own personalized logos.
“Because it is a Graphic Design class, the purpose is to be able to create images that communicate visually,” Graphic Design III teacher Rosarita Olvina said. “And, with these specific deliverables, it offers [students] to have these images and [resources] for their personal use when they graduate.”
Creating everything from a logo to business cards, the main purpose of this project is to produce a representation of themselves.
“I [do] believe that creating this logo for my digital portfolio will help me get jobs in the future,” senior Casie Fierro said. “It’s unique to me and makes me stand out, as well as gives a sense of professionalism and what I’m about overall.”
By utilizing tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, students are given an abundance of opportunities to help create professional social media accounts on platforms, like LinkedIn.
“Adobe products are very useful software for graphic designers to produce and edit their own content,” senior Krystal Staclara said. “It’s another form of the medium where artists can bring out their creativity and at first, I hated creating digital art, but now I prefer using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop rather than pencil and paper. It is overall easier to construct and design my ideas onto this software.”
Along with their headshots and resumes, students will be required to turn in a video with their personalized logo on Oct. 16 with their logos placed on web banners, watermarks and more.
“My logo so far is a caution sign with only an exclamation point in the center of it,” Fierro said. “A key detail about it is the red exclamation point [that’s] been stylized, I drew it out myself on Adobe to give it a graffiti feel rather than a typical computer font. Red is probably the color that stands out the most, but it is so classy and attractive, which is what my brand is about; making street style, classy.”
For Olvinas, the main priority is students’ being happy with the materials they have developed during this project.
“At the very end of the assignment, I hope that [students] have a logo that they are proud of,” Olvina said. “In the end, [this project] will help students to brand themselves so they could start seeking jobs in the real world.”
