To give back to the community, HOSA members are hosting their annual toy drive throughout the month of December.
“I have to replace myself in the community, all of us do as we age,” HOSA adviser Vicki Smith said. “We need to have our young people value giving back to the community and helping others. They need to know it’s not always about themselves, it’s about helping others.”
All month, toys for children up to age 10 will be accepted. Additionally, all toys must be brand new.
“I think donating to the toy drive is important to spread the holiday spirit,” HOSA member Maya Negash said. “I know everyone was excited to get new toys for Christmas, so I hope we can spread that joy to the less fortunate.”
For this event, HOSA has partnered with the Salvation Army a non-profit organization that donates to children in need.
“As the holidays approach, there are many families that are not fortunate enough to provide for their children,” HOSA secretary Angelica Pangan said. “This toy drive is important and ensures every child feels special during the holidays, no matter their circumstances.”
To increase the participation from members of other clubs, all students who donate will be given two hours of community service per toy they donate.
“These are for kids who will have no Christmas without the Salvation Army,” Smith said. “I’m hoping for at least 100 toys for the families who cannot afford to buy presents this year.”
