At the start of this school year, the Southwest Career and Technical Academy hired a new Community Partnership Coordinator. Mr. Jeffrey Ball was appointed to the position after the former coordinator, Mrs. Gia Moore, was promoted to the position of dean of students at Veteran’s Tribute High School.
“Being the Community Partnership Coordinator, I will bring in new community resources to enhance the students’ learning and prepare them for life outside of high school. I also hope to raise the standard of student achievement beyond our already exceptional level by having real world businesses and community leaders contribute to our students’ learning experience,” says Ball.
Last school year, Ball was part of the faculty as a long-term substitute. Unfortunately, the school was not able to extend him a full-time position at that time, due to the district budget cuts.
“I really like Mr. Ball. He’s a nice and funny teacher. I was sad when I heard they were cutting his [position], but when I saw him in the middle of the cafeteria, I was pretty happy,” said sophomore Jeb Marinas.
Ball now communicates with businesses outside of SWCTA from his office in the community partnership office. He is currently working on many projects and communicating with the school’s current partners to ensure a continued relationship.
