For the portables to be move-in ready, the Clark County School District construction crew scheduled electricity installment for tomorrow. The power will be out anywhere between 12 and 16 hours.
“We doubled the size of those programs so each portable will have a teacher, their assistant and their student population,” Dean James Campbell said. “To restore power, it’s like flipping on and off a light switch, which can be scary sometimes. With refrigeration and culinary, it should be fine as long as no one opens a door or refrigerator.”
The construction set back other school activities, such as HOSA’s car wash, a teacher meeting and open gym. These events are cancelled/postponed for another weekend.
“This has caused us to set back another week for raising money for cystic fibrosis and now we have to wait for another week to get approved,” HOSA president elect junior Kelsey Rowan said.
Concern arises in regards to the refrigerators and equipment within the Culinary and cafeteria kitchens. Faculty encourages students and civilians to stay away from the area on Saturday in order for the construction crew to complete their task without any complications.
“I know there are some things on the inside that need to be addressed like replacing carpet or things that need to be done in order to keep it operational,” Campbell said. “I hope by Oct. 1, the portables will be ready for use.”
