Student Council (StuCo) is set to host Trunk or Treat today, where families and students are welcome to come on campus to trick or treat. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m. in the bus parking lot.
For the past three years, StuCo has been in charge of planning and preparing the event.
“The first year when we did Trunk or Treat, we mainly copied what was done the very first year,” StuCo Co-Adviser Brandon Lafountain said. “We just had trunks and did not fill up the whole lot, whereas last year, in comparison, we had a lot of games, we filled the entire bus lot and we had food trucks with a haunted house where the line was out the door. It has become more like a fairground, which is nice. We want to add more elements to it.”
Clubs are ready to showcase, decorate and select a concept for their trunk outside the bus parking lot.
“We have been planning up work days where club members can come in and work on building props for the trunk,” Technology Student Association secretary Alexandra Austria said. “This year we chose to base our trunk on Plants vs. Zombies. We thought it would be a fun concept. We highly encourage our members to participate in the event and help us create it by offering volunteer hours, which has been a success so far.”
In addition, clubs have planned interactive activities; Drama Club will host their haunted house for the third year.
“We want to make some kids scared, we want them to cry, we want them to be scared to go through,” Drama Club adviser Maritza De La Fuente said. “This year, we have a list of don’ts. We are more organized, everybody has a job and it is not just chaos. Compared to last year, I am not freaking out. I really enjoy seeing the kids realizing that it is possible and seeing them be proud of it makes me happiest because it is all their work, they built it.”
Students and families are encouraged to attend and participate in the event.
“We really enjoy and try to implement this event as more of a community outreach,” Lafountain said. “An event where the idea is mainly on how the community is welcome to come, bring their children, so that they can have a place they can go if they’re not necessarily comfortable with them going out in the streets at night for trick or treating.”
