After four years of connecting the homecoming theme to Movie Night, Student Council has decided to take a different approach.
This year, movie night will take place September 27th on the field.
“We had four movies in mind: ‘High School Musical,’ ‘Descendants,’ ‘The Sound of Music,’ and ‘Mary Poppins,’” Senior PA Vice President Brianna Scherschel said. “Picking the homecoming theme was more difficult than picking the actual movie.”
When deciding on a theme, Student Council presented diverse ideas, which caused obstacles upon making a final decision.
“It was a bit of a challenge,” Sophomore Class President Mia Mendez said. “We all had a lot of different opinions and because of that, we had to balance our personalities out and choose one thing that could incorporate [all of] our ideas.”
Student Council is in the process of creating a spirit week which will occur in the days leading up to homecoming, which will take place October 18th.
“We tried our best to find a way to make the spirit days related to the theme,” Junior President Ava Kamman said. “While planning, we wanted the spirit days to be just general but also fun for everyone to relate to and participate in. We wanted it not to be complicated or too over the top because we wanted everyone to be able to have the particular items or things already with them.”
Student Council adviser Michael Woxland will be continuing the tradition of keeping the homecoming theme confidential until Movie Night.
“The pressure is real, and I want to be vague.“ Woxland said. “[A word to hint at the theme] is fabulous, or—showtime. There are some hints there, but you would need to do a little guesswork to figure it out.”
