My favorite song by Rex Orange County is “Open A Window” because it holds a special connection to my cousin, who introduced me to so much great music, including this track. It was his favorite song, and hearing it reminds me of when we talked about music. Another reason I love the song is Tyler, the Creator’s verse—it’s a great blend of his unique style and energy, adding something extra to the track. The way the lyrics speak about self-reflection and finding peace really resonates with me as well. The song’s balance of mellow vibes and meaningful words always make it a great song that never gets old.

Songs about nostalgia and ‘easier times’ always hit close to home for me, and 2008 by Rex Orange County is my favorite song for this reason. It displays those reminiscent feelings we get through wistful yet introspective lyrics and an upbeat instrumental. 2008 also just encapsulates those abstract feelings of nostalgia through such simplistic imagery and talk of the artist’s own childhood. Rex Orange County’s experiences are relatable and for that this song had quickly became one of my favorites. This song will always serve as my reminder to take life one step at a time and to, “take it slow.”

When I think about my favorite Rex Orange County song, my mind immediately floats to his Apricot Princess album and the song, “4 Seasons.” The song has many gems to it. Rex produces it in such a beautiful way. The soft pacing with talk-rap, the drums leading up to the build-up, and the vulnerability in his singing are all elements that provoke deep appreciation for the song. It’s not only the instrumentals and the singing in the song that make my fondness for it strong. It’s also the message. The line that resonates most with me is, “We don’t even need to mention all the things that matter. Or anything you’re stressing ’bout. Just tell me why your day was good. And love me after hours.” This line is one of the main reasons this song means so much to me. It has such love behind it. His saying that he doesn’t need anything from anyone other than just their quality time, conversation, and love, is truly admirable. Especially since Rex wrote this song based on his fear of abandonment, people leaving him, and his Grandpa who has dementia. Much like the title, four seasons is a way to show immense change. And with those changes come hardships and the struggle with time passing. But Rex sings these problems in a way that makes the one listening feel more okay, even throughout those trials. My personal experience with this song has been nothing but memorable. I still remember 7th grade, when my older cousins were blasting it while they drove down the highway. And I started tearing up because at the time it was a transitioning moment for all of us in life. It was a very beautiful and raw moment that I would never forget, which made me love the song much more.

My favorite song by Rex Orange County is Corduroy Dreams because of the bittersweet, melancholy vibe that really speaks to me. I’ve been listening to him since seventh grade when my best friend first introduced me to his music, and I’ve connected with his lyrics ever since. This song, in particular, brings back so many good memories of me and my friends singing our hearts out together. Rex Orange County’s music feels like it captures our emotions and experiences perfectly.”

Where do I even begin? Ah, yes, it was the summer of 2020. Quarantine had started, and indie was it. You wouldn’t go a second on Instagram stories without artists like Clairo and Mitski playing on each story. Oh yes, it was lovely though, I wasn’t even into music then, but It was truly the golden era. There was this one artist that stood out. I remember it so well; I heard the gentle beat and vocals, that captured the heart of young william deng. This ballad, Waiting Room by Rex Orange County might not be a song meant for the stage but the enjoyment of listening to it in the cafe or on the train is rivaled by few. The song takes a while, it builds up into this gorgeous climax. Wow. My favorite song is “It’s not the same anymore” though.

“Always” by Rex Orange County is my favorite because it hits home with the ups and downs of high school life and relationships. The lyrics perfectly capture the feelings of longing and uncertainty that many of us experience, making it super relatable. Plus, the upbeat melody gives off good vibes, making it a great song to listen to while hanging out with friends or just chilling after a long day. It feels like the perfect anthem for navigating all those teenage emotions!

When Rex Orange County once said, ‘The great protector, is that what I’m supposed to be?’ in Pluto Projector, it really resonated with me. This song is my favorite because it captures the complexity of relationships and how they evolve over time. It reminds me of past friendships and how they shaped me, brought both joy and growth, and the bittersweet realization that not everything stays the same. The reflective lyrics and heartfelt melody make it a powerful reminder of how those connections are a part of who I am.

My favorite Rex Orange County song is Best Friend. This is because it is very nostalgic and reminds me of a time that I would spend a lot of time with one of my best friends. Before entering High school during the summer it was nice to spend all day chatting and being hopeful of the future. This song really embodies those times and encapsulates my excitement and friendship at the time.
