The Senior Class Board held an informational meeting in the ballroom to give an overview of the trip to Disneyland, set to be held on Feb. 9.
The meeting began with a review of the conditions needed for students to be eligible to attend, which is focusing solely on senior activities this year, rather than all four years.
“There’s always been requirements to attend the senior trip,” Student Council Adviser Brandon Lafountain said. “They’re a bit more lax this year and it gives more opportunity for people to go. We don’t have to offer this, so it’s nice to recognize those who did what they needed to. ”
Students will be able to pay as soon as Monday, Sept. 22, with the trip requiring of payment 60 days before the trip.
“We have to operate underneath Disney’s guidelines,” LaFountain said. “We have absolutely no control over it. We’re adamant about staying within the timeline because it cannot change. If people are interested, they need to do those forms as soon as possible. The sooner you get it done, the sooner you can guarantee your ticket.”
All course fees must be paid beforehand, though the $300 cost can be paid in installments after the initial payment of $150 or more. After an initial payment, a student’s spot is secured and the deposit is nonrefundable, with failure to pay the full amount possibly resulting in inability to receive graduation materials.
“This happens every single year,” Assistant Principal Donna Besser said. “We will not refund your deposit because you are securing a spot from someone else. You need to be thinking about that. If you’re not sure about going, you better not pay.”
Tickets are limited, with only half the class being able to go. However, the possibility of another bus was discussed.
“Hopefully, we could accommodate as many people that could possibly want to go,” Woxland said. “Based on the number of students that attended the informational meeting, this looks like it could be one of the most popular grad nights in recent years.”
Requirements aside, the Senior Class Board promises a regular day at Disneyland, with all attractions available and no need to stay with a group, other than periodic check-ins.
“I’m excited to get to go somewhere with my friends,” senior Preston Schwartz said. “It’s in February, so we’ll get to go on more rides too. I really want to try the new ride that replaced Splash Mountain, since it’s one of the only things I haven’t done at Disneyland.”
When the floor was opened for questions, none were asked. Further information became available to students in an email sent on Sept. 17 at 2pm and on Remind using the code @swdt26.
“I’m really excited to attend the trip,” senior Allyana Abao said. “Especially as part of the senior student council, it’s gonna be fun and I can’t wait to help plan it. All of my friends are going and we’re gonna make sure we have a good time. We really want to fully experience it and make memories with the rest of the class.”
